Winston Churchill
Winston Churchill remains the most collected figure in twentieth-century political history — a statesman, orator, writer, and Nobel laureate whose correspondence, signed documents, and portraits command sustained collector interest worldwide.
“In letters as in speeches, Winston Churchill wielded words like weapons- helping unite Britain and America in defense of the free world.”
Winston Churchill — Letters, Signatures, Bronzes & Photographs
The market for Churchill memorabilia is broad but sharply stratified: at its highest level it encompasses autograph letters signed in his own hand, typed letters signed with his distinctive signature, presentation photographs bearing personal inscriptions, and sculptural portraits by the artists who knew him — above all Oscar Nemon, whose bronzes of Churchill are among the most significant portrait sculptures of the era, and Yousuf Karsh, whose 1941 Roaring Lion photograph is one of the most recognised portraits in the history of photography. Churchill's correspondence spans a remarkable range — from the wartime letters written from 10 Downing Street at the height of Allied operations, marked Secret and touching on the broadest dimensions of grand strategy, to the personal notes to close friends that reveal his private voice with characteristic humor and vividness.
Daniels Antiques has assembled one of the most varied Churchill collections available on the private market, with particular strength in signed letters from the 1930s and 1940s — spanning the wilderness years, the wartime premiership, and the postwar period — as well as Oscar Nemon bronzes, Karsh photographs, and signed presentation portraits. Several pieces in the collection carry exceptional provenance. Each piece is authenticated and described with full physical detail, provenance, and, where applicable, published literature references. Inquiries are welcome — pieces are available for viewing by appointment at our galleries in Aspen, Colorado, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
