Daniels Antiques has been a fixture of downtown Aspen since 1998 — the longest-standing antique shop in the city, occupying its place on the Hyman Ave Mall for over twenty-eight years. The shop is run by Michael Daniels, who founded the business in 1978, and his son Simon Daniels, whose degrees in archaeology and anthropology from Durham University and the University of Cambridge bring a scholarly rigor to every piece in the collection.
That expertise found its most visible expression in Swiss Carvings: The Art of the Black Forest (1820–1940), co-authored by Simon and Michael Daniels — the authoritative reference work on the subject, consulted by collectors and institutions worldwide.
Every piece is chosen against a single standard: is this among the finest and rarest examples of its kind ever made? The result spans museum-quality Winston Churchill memorabilia, Auguste Rodin bronzes, original Guilmet automaton clocks, vintage Louis Vuitton trunks, and Swiss Black Forest carvings of the highest order. Scholarly in its foundations, uncompromising in its standards, and open by appointment.
