Louis Vuitton Natural Leather Fitted Jewellery Case, Serial No. 800580, circa 1930s

$0.00

Among the most intimate objects the Louis Vuitton atelier produced, the fitted jewelry case shows the house at its most refined, made not for the rigors of travel but for the private world of its owner. This example, in natural-grain leather with a royal blue velvet interior, is one of the finest of its type we have encountered.

The brass lock plate, stamped Louis Vuitton Made in France, is functional, with the side clasps and leather carry handle present and sound. In the upper-left corner of the lid, the owner's monogram, M.V.W, is stamped in gold. Natural leather pieces of this type were made to order for individual clients rather than kept in stock, and the monogram marks this as a bespoke commission.

The interior is in perfect original condition, remarkable for a piece of this age. The fitted compartments are lined in royal blue velvet of deeply saturated, unfaded color, a central open section flanked by two padded compartments with rolls for rings or bracelets, and the blue silk lid lining is clean and intact. The contrast between the warm chestnut exterior and the vivid blue interior is entirely as made. Serial number 800580 is stamped on the interior leather; the hardware style and serial number place the case in the 1930s.

For the serious Vuitton collector, a natural-leather jewelry case from this period in this state of preservation is an exceptional find.

Condition: Excellent; honest unrestored condition with rich, even patina and no structural losses. No key.
Dimensions: 8 in. width x 6 in. depth x 3 in. height
