After Louis Vuitton opened up shop in London circa 1885 the French trunk maker was inspired by the fine luggage of the English Gentleman. And, soon improved upon it. He made both the form and content lighter and designed a model specifically for his English clients, fittingly named “London”. He put out a catalog for Railway Companions, a line of suitcases and trunks for train travel, one of which was a roomy expandable suitcase.
