Hailed as “the gun that won WWII”, the Browning machine gun was designed by John M. Browning towards the end of WWI, and has been in service since 1933. While most guns age out after a few years and are replaced by a new model, the legendary Browning machine gun is one of the most enduring and effective gun models in history, still being used to this day. This gun has also been used in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Falklands War, the Soviet- Afghan War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the war in Afghanistan in the 2000s and 2010s.

John M. Browning was an American gunsmith to whom we can attribute many developments in American gun-making. Many of his designs are still used around the world to this day. Browning had a hand in nearly all categories of firearms designs, but his specialty was the autoloading of ammunition. He developed the first gas-operating firearm, the Colt-Browning Model 1895 machine gun.

What we see here is a training model of the Browning .30 Caliber M1919A6 machine gun, a really imposing sight to behold as this model is twice the size of a real shooting gun. Training models were used in military classrooms in order to teach cadets the ins and outs of the real gun, preparing future soldiers to handle the weapon in combat; this explains the intimidating scale! The training machine guns cycle the rounds like real shooting gun, and they were originally mounted unto a wooden base.

While ours has been stripped of any paint and has been expertly hand-polished, in its original state this gun was color coded to highlight and better reveal the circle of operation of the gun and the movement of the active parts. Now, this piece serves as a piece of artwork in its beautiful metallic finish. This sculptural, historical, and functional piece will work in most decors, as even though its history qualifies it as mid-century vintage, the metallic polished look gives it a contemporary edge.
