Black Forest Double Tobacco Jar
A SWISS BLACK FOREST DOUBLE TOBACCO JAR, CIRCA 1880. A rare carved walnut double tobacco jar in the form of a fox and rabbit standing with arms linked in formal attire the crafty fox with sword and pistol, and rabbit with a bunch of carrots. The carving was inspired by the french fables of Reynard the Fox. Reynard the Fox was medieval Europe’s trickster figure.
