A Black Forest Climbing Bear Clock

A playful, very witty Black Forest Linden wood Carving, of superb quality, depicting bears cast in the role of mountaineers, carrying rucksacks, climbing ropes and ice picks- with one bear surveying the view through his binoculars; the 'mountain' houses a circular faced clock, with Roman numerals, and a eight day striking movement, the whole rising from a shaped naturalistic base.

This remarkable piece is illustrated in our groundbreaking book, 'Swiss Carvings The Art of the Black Forest', published in 2005 in Great Britain by the Antique Collector's Club' shown on pp 160
