Black Forest Bear Jardiniere

Signed by the eminent Interlaken carver, Rudolph Linder. Hand carved in Linden wood, and having two-toned glass eyes; dated to 1890.

The photographic image is taken from our groundbreaking book, 'Swiss Carvings The Art of the Black Forest', published in 2005 in Great Britain by the Antique Collector's Club' showing our bear in its last home, which gives a true idea of the bear's scale.

Our bear displays a globular, shaped polychrome jardiniere, signed to the base by Delphin Massier,( 1836-1907) the eldest of the three sons of Jacques Massier ( 1806-1871), all of whom became renowned ceramicists. Jacques Massier, was the successor to Honore Massier, the founder of a highly successful ceramic factory situated in Vallauris, situated close to Nice and Antibes.
