A finely carved mountain maple dog group by Walter Mader, circa 1890. Walter Mader and his son Heinrich of Brienz, Switzerland were best know for their exceptional lifelike dog carvings. The attention to detail and overall composition brings the carvings to life. A number of these carvings were originally retailed by Ed Binder & Co. Similar dog groups are pictured on page 78 of “Swiss Carvings The Art of The Black Forest” by Daniels.
