Description
This beautifully kept trunk is notable for its unique set up. Two doors open symmetrically to reveal an array of 10 drawers, which may have once carried clothing during traveling. The top of the trunk can be opened for another compartment. Linen, leather, brass, and wood compose this wonderful piece. This one of a kind, custom-made trunk belonged to one of the most affluent families in Buffalo, New York.; the Birge family. The surname Birge is stamped on two sides of the trunk, along with “Buffalo” and “N.Y.”. The Birge Mansion is to this day one of the landmarks of the city of Buffalo, and was originally built in 1897 for George Birge, founder of the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company.
