Live Steam Locomotives

Our selection of Live Steam locomotives represent the very highest standards of model engineering. The Live Steam trains come in different gauges, namely gauge 1, gauge 2.5 inches, 3.5 inche gauge and 5 inch gauge.  Larger gauge models are available but weigh sometimes in excess of 1500 lbs (700 kilos) or more.  The majority of our Live Steam trains or locomotives are what they call 'scratch built' and in some cases models were built using casting from commercial companies, but the majority of the work in these trains and locomotives was done by hand.  The trains are really little engines, as close to the real train as possible.  The fuel used is coal, the power comes via a boiler as it does on a real Live Steam train or locomotive.

Our latest accusition is a 3.5 inch gauge Pacific design model of The Princess Royal. The work was commenced in 1946 and finished in 1951.  The model has never been used.

These Live Steam locomotive/train represent a dying art form.  Whether used as a display piece or a working model, (a 3.5 inch gauge locomotive would carry 3 to 5 people along a track).
