18th Century Mahogany Channel Islands Chest

Circa:  1790

Built in the Channel Islands circa 1790, this mahogany chest is identified as a ‘chest on chest’ for its’ tall appearance seeming to have been constructed by mounting a narrower set of drawers on a base of wider mahogany craftsmanship. In America, this style is often referred to as a highboy or tallboy.

Fine fan inlays stretch a panel across the chest’s luminous grain, accentuated by brass scrolled handles.
